Being a programmer who runs a web site about source code I am continuously research deeply on how to obtain more readers to my website. While making sure that I am not left behind with new technology I also joined twitter and find it very useful in driving more traffic to my website.

Joining twitter is not only about traffic. It is also about the relationship with your reader. I found that some members who use twitter are using this means to make money online. In what way? By twitting their affiliate program.

Although there are different theories about how do you market your own article using twitter, some said that it’s a bad idea to market directly using an affiliate link.

But this is may be because they are not new to twitter. If you are new to twitter you will be probably convinced to click those fancy links. You cannot compare the experience of a newbie to a pro. That’s why sometimes they are so many arguments on the internet.

So it’s up to you to determine and decide whether your reader belongs to what category or group of people.

The Hard Work

While it is true that you can grab traffic out of twitting people, the disadvantage of using this service is it’s too hard to maintain relationship with your reader. You need to take more time compare with other method of generating traffic.

Even if it is 160 character per post but you need also to tweet a lot of people to stand out from the crowd. Although I don’t recommend you to spend much of your time using this service, using it accordingly over time may be you will get some readership also directed to your web site.

I suggest you tweet once a day so you will not burn out using this service. Just focus on the quality of your article and the traffic will come in as you go along.  Twitting can be considered a sideline.
